Is Your Toilet Acting Up?

A malfunctioning toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water and damage your flooring. Watch for these common signs before it costs you:

Toilet constantly running (phantom flushing)
Water leaking around the base of the toilet
Weak or incomplete flush
Toilet rocks or wobbles when you sit on it
Tank takes a long time to refill
Visible cracks in the tank or bowl
Hissing sounds coming from the tank

Understanding Your Toilet Problems

Know when to DIY and when to call the pros.

Common Warning Signs

Your toilet gives you warning signs before it fails completely. A running toilet can waste over 200 gallons per day. A wobbling base may indicate a failing wax ring seal. Ignoring these symptoms leads to higher water bills and potential floor damage. Learn more about the red flags to watch for in our guide on common toilet problems every West Palm Beach homeowner should know.

Repair or Replace?

Not every toilet problem requires a full replacement. Simple fixes like flapper valves or fill valves are affordable repairs. However, if your toilet has cracks in the porcelain, wobbles even after tightening, or you are calling for repairs more than once a year, it may be time to invest in a new high-efficiency model that will save you money on water bills.

The Integrity Difference

Our technicians arrive with common toilet parts already on the van. We diagnose fast, explain what we find, and give you honest repair options. Whether it is a quick fix or a full replacement, we treat your bathroom with respect and clean up when we are done.

The Most Common Toilet Repairs We Handle

Parts that wear out, what they cost to fix, and when DIY is fine.

The flapper, the fill valve, and the float

Most toilet repairs come down to three small parts inside the tank. The flapper is the rubber seal at the bottom of the tank that lifts when you flush, and a worn flapper is the number one cause of a toilet that runs constantly or refills on its own. The fill valve refills the tank after each flush, and when it fails the toilet either runs nonstop or refuses to fill. The float controls when the fill valve shuts off, and when it sticks too high you get water in the overflow tube. All three are quick same-day repairs and the parts are inexpensive.

Wax rings and the rocking toilet

A toilet that rocks even slightly when you sit on it is a wax ring problem waiting to happen. The wax ring is the seal between the bottom of the toilet and the drain flange in the floor, and it gets compromised when the toilet shifts. The first sign is usually a faint sewage smell in the bathroom or a damp spot on the floor near the base of the toilet. We pull the toilet, replace the wax ring, reset the toilet, and seal it back to the floor on the same visit. Putting it off turns a quick repair into a subfloor replacement.

Supply lines, shut-off valves, and angle stops

Behind the toilet, the braided steel supply line connects to an angle stop (the small valve that shuts off the water to just that toilet). Both fail in predictable ways. Supply lines fail at the connection nut on either end, and a leaking supply line shows up as a slow puddle behind the toilet. Angle stops corrode over decades and stop turning, which means the next plumber on the next repair has to shut off the whole house instead of just the one fixture. We replace both as part of any toilet repair where the existing ones are showing age.

When DIY is fine and when to call

Replacing a flapper or adjusting a float is genuinely DIY territory. The parts are at any hardware store and the steps are well documented. Call us instead when the toilet is leaking from the base, when the porcelain itself is cracked, when the toilet wobbles even after the bolts are tight, when the same problem keeps coming back, or when you are dealing with a clog that does not clear with a standard plunger. Those are all signs the issue is downstream of the easy fixes and you need someone with a cable, a camera, or a fresh wax ring on the truck.

Upgrading to a modern, water-saving toilet

If your toilet was installed before 1994 it likely uses 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush. A modern WaterSense-certified toilet uses 1.28 gallons per flush with the same flushing power. Over a year that adds up to thousands of gallons of water and a smaller utility bill. We install Kohler, Toto, and American Standard toilets most often. Comfort-height bowls are easier on the knees, dual-flush models let you choose flush volume, and soft-close lids quiet the morning routine. Installation is usually a one to two hour visit including the new wax ring and new supply line.
